Bronze
Height: 6.25 in (16 cm)
Width: 4 in (10 cm)
Depth: 2.25 in (6 cm)

NON-EXPORTABLE REGISTERED ANTIQUITY

PROVENANCE
Pundole's, Mumbai, 16 December 2014, lot 4

A rare image of a two‒headed deity. Unfortunately, the figure’s facial features are completely obliterated, and parts of the body are covered in a thick layer of earth, making identification difficult. The treatment of the body resembles Bhairavi, a fierce manifestation of the Hindu goddess associated with tantric traditions. The figure beneath has its palms joined in anjali mudra, a gesture of reverence or greeting. The deity may be martial and possibly have a tantric affiliation.
