PROVENANCE
Formerly in the Collection of Late Albert Elias, acquired before 1968
Thence by descent

This charming, jubilant sculpture depicts Krishna as a child dancing in joy. His expression is playful; one hand is raised while the other extends in blessing to his devotees. Despite its miniature scale, the artist has paid great attention to the finer details, rendering the jewellery, bodily contours, the delicate shaping of the toes, and the expression with precision. The reverse is equally delightful, featuring a siraschakra (halo), fluid body lines, and a sensitively modelled, childlike posterior. The surface bears a dark patina with a rich green hue, highly prized among collectors. It remains a curious market disequilibrium that works of such minute scale, demanding exceptional skill and control, often command only a fraction of the price achieved by larger icons.
