PROVENANCE
Formerly in the Collection of Maharaja of Bundi


This painting in the Bundi style features a portrait of a nobleman posing in royal attire with his shield and sword. He is shown wearing a white chakdar jama, a green and golden patka, a white turban, orange pyjama and orange-green footwear. A small red pouch is tucked at his waistband and his sparse jewellery includes pearl earrings, strings of pearl, tasselled necklaces, wristbands, and anklets. A shield and a sword can be seen hanging across his shoulder and with his right hand, he holds the hilt of a red-sheathed sword. He is featured on an open terraced balcony with pink balustrades and a light green floor with geometric patterned tiles and a small staircase leading down from the balustrades in the foreground. The background is in plain olive green and the painting has twin borders, a yellow inner border and a red outer border with inscriptions written in black ink on the upper red border in Devanagari letters. At the back of this miniature at the top, written in blue ink, is the stamp and signature of the artist along with a date however it is not clear beneath that a blue stamp which states HH, The Maharaja of Bundi, Rajasthan, India. The number 75 is written at the top of this stamp and b5 is written at the bottom.
