This simple composition shows a noble Maratha lady wearing a Saree painted in a semi-realistic style seated crossed legged on the chequered floor of a room. The folds of her mustard-red chequered saree are carefully detailed along with the patterns on the pallu of her saree. Her face and wrinkles are rendered with fine details and her salt and pepper hair is tied up along with a middle parting. A red bindi on her forehead adds to the subtle charm of her face and her jewellery includes a tushi (a choker necklace) and golden strings in her neck, bali (ring) and studs in her ear and golden bangles denoting her status as a member of the aristocracy.
