This signed profile portrait captures Mahatma Gandhi in a moment of reflection. Reduced almost entirely to profile, line, and draped fabric, the photograph exemplifies the understated visual language through which photographers increasingly represented Gandhi as both a political leader and a moral thinker.

The photograph bears Gandhi's handwritten Hindi inscription, "Bapu ke Ashirvad" ("Blessings from Bapu"), presented to Anand T Hingorani as a personal gift. More than a conventional autograph, the inscription reflects the close relationship between Gandhi and the Hingorani family, whose association with him extended beyond politics into mentorship, personal guidance, and intellectual collaboration.

Anand T Hingorani occupied a distinctive place within Gandhi's circle. A participant in the Dandi March and later editor of Harijan, he devoted much of his life to preserving and disseminating Gandhian thought. Preserved within the Hingorani family for decades, the present photograph forms part of an important private archive documenting Gandhi's personal relationships and intellectual legacy during the closing years of British rule in India.
