Mahadev Visvanath Dhurandhar, also called Rao Bahadur, a title bestowed on him by the British government, was the first Indian director of the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai.

(A scholar and collector, Mr. Mavji ran the Laxmi Art Printers along with Dadasaheb Phalke. He published books and magazines which were illustrated by the artist. He also had a private museum including such artworks, some of which had been donated to the Prince of Wales Museum.)
