Working primarily on old handmade paper, he used stone-ground mineral and vegetable pigments to create compositions marked by raw, intuitive brushwork and enigmatic forms. His imagery drew upon tantric ritual, folk memory, religious symbolism and his own emotional landscape. Recurring subjects such as Lord Ganesha reveal the depth of his spiritual engagement, while his distorted and expressive figures convey a sense of inner turbulence and introspection. Singh’s practice is distinguished by its ability to transform inherited visual languages into something profoundly personal and contemporary. His works occupy an intriguing space between the archaic and the modern, the sacred and the psychological, resisting tidy categorizations. His compositions are contemplative in nature, asking his viewers for patience and curiosity to unravel their complex layers of symbolism and personal meaning. Often created privately and late at night, his paintings emerged from a process guided more by intuition and personal necessity than formal artistic training. Though relatively unknown beyond Jaipur’s art circles during his lifetime, Singh’s singular body of work has increasingly invited renewed attention. His work featured in a solo exhibition The Enigma of Jaipur in 2026 at the Visual Arts Gallery and Open Palm Court of the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
