Avalokiteshwara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, can be identified by the large lotus he holds in his left hand and by the image of a seated Buddha, Amitabha, in his headdress. The two-handed Bodhisattva holds a blooming lotus in his right hand and his left hand is extended in a gesture of granting boons. The icon is princely in appearance as he is dressed in regal finery. His matted locks are beautifully coiled forming an elaborate crown. The small size of this image suggests that it was a personal object of devotion.
