This signed photograph depicts Mahatma Gandhi on one of his daily prayer walks, an activity that formed an essential part of his routine during the final decades of his life. Besides close associates, he would often be accompanied by children, whom he once described as his “living walking sticks", indicating his strong belief in the moral and spiritual promise of India’s youth.

The present lot bears a handwritten inscription in Hindi reading "Bapu ke Ashirvad” (“Blessings from Bapu”). The use of the affectionate term “Bapu” reflects the intimate and familial nature of Gandhi’s relationship with Anand T Hingorani, to whom the photograph was gifted.

Unlike officially circulated portraits produced for public distribution, photographs from the Hingorani Collection carry the immediacy of personal association. Hingorani occupied an unusually close position within Gandhi’s circle – as a freedom activist, participant in the Dandi March, editor of Harijan, and lifelong custodian of Gandhian thought. Preserved within the family for decades, the present photograph forms part of an important privately held archive documenting Gandhi not solely as a political leader but as a mentor and deeply personal presence within the Hingorani household.
